  For September 2028 entry, Gloucestershire's seven grammar schools move from GL Assessment to FSCE. Pate's says registration opens at noon on 8 February 2027 and closes at noon on 19 March 2027, with the test on 3 July 2027 in Year 5. Its 2028 guidance describes three papers covering English, maths and primary foundation subjects. These dates and papers are for the next cohort, not the 2026 GL test for September 2027 entry.

Eligibility

Boys who achieve the qualifying standard in the Gloucestershire Grammar School Admission Test and whose parent expresses a preference on the Common Application Form.

Score policy

Two multiple-choice papers covering verbal ability, numerical reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Paper marks are age standardised and combined into a total score and rank order; the Trustees' Admission Committee sets the qualifying standard rather than using a fixed pass mark.

Oversubscription

Qualifying looked-after, previously looked-after or internationally adopted previously looked-after boys; then qualifying Pupil Premium boys; then qualifying boys who meet the policy's school-staff criterion; then all other qualifying boys. Within the first three categories, shorter straight-line distance takes priority; equal distances are resolved by higher test score. In the final category, higher test score takes priority, then shorter distance; any remaining tie is resolved by random allocation.
