Provider change for September 2028 entry

For September 2028 entry, Gloucestershire's seven grammar schools move from GL Assessment to FSCE. Pate's says registration opens at noon on 8 February 2027 and closes at noon on 19 March 2027, with the test on 3 July 2027 in Year 5. Its 2028 guidance describes three papers covering English, maths and primary foundation subjects. These dates and papers are for the next cohort, not the 2026 GL test for September 2027 entry.

What to do with a 2026 Gloucestershire test result

  1. Read the result from every grammar school you chose to share the test with. The seven schools use one sitting, but each applies its own 2027 qualifying and oversubscription rules. A qualifying result is not a place offer.
  2. If Pate's Grammar School is on your list, its newly published guidance distinguishes ranks 1 to 150 from 151 to 250. Its determined policy also has a lower-score route for specified disadvantaged and care categories. Read your own result email and the Pate's school guide before deciding whether to name it.
  3. Stroud High School reports whether an applicant is in its top 150, otherwise qualified with a rank, or not qualified. Its 2027 policy also gives qualifying Pupil Premium and Service Pupil Premium applicants priority before general score rank. Read the Stroud High school guide and your own result email; none of these categories is a place offer.
  4. Name the schools you would accept on your home council's secondary application in genuine preference order. Gloucestershire residents must apply by midnight on 31 October 2026; other families should check their own council's deadline. Test registration and score sharing did not submit this application.

Scoring and eligibility

Each grammar school the family opted to share results with sends its own confirmation of whether the child achieved that school’s qualifying score. Qualification alone is not an offer; families must also list schools on the home local-authority application.
