  For September 2028 entry, Gloucestershire's seven grammar schools move from GL Assessment to FSCE. Pate's says registration opens at noon on 8 February 2027 and closes at noon on 19 March 2027, with the test on 3 July 2027 in Year 5. Its 2028 guidance describes three papers covering English, maths and primary foundation subjects. These dates and papers are for the next cohort, not the 2026 GL test for September 2027 entry.

Eligibility

Girls in the normal Year 7 cohort may apply; the School must first agree any out-of-age application. Ordinary applicants must meet the Qualifying Standard. The policy also allows eligible children in care or previously in care and Pupil Premium applicants to be considered up to 100 rank places below the standard in their respective priority categories.

Score policy

The Qualifying Standard is set after test results are known. The care and Pupil Premium categories may include applicants up to 100 rank places below the standard; other applicants must meet the standard. Applicants are ranked by Admissions Test result, then straight-line distance for equal results, with supervised random allocation for an equal-distance last-place tie.

Oversubscription

A separate EHC-plan provision says a child whose plan names Ribston will be admitted after the Local Authority and School assess sufficient academic ability; this is outside the normal numbered criteria. In an oversubscribed normal round, the order is: (1) children in care or previously in care, including qualifying internationally adopted children, meeting the Qualifying Standard or ranking within 100 places below it; (2) 30 Pupil Premium places for applicants meeting the standard or within 100 ranks below it, first GL1-GL4 applicants by test rank and then applicants outside those postcodes by rank; (3) other applicants meeting the Qualifying Standard by rank. Equal scores are ranked by straight-line distance; an equal-distance tie for the final place is decided by supervised random allocation.
