  The five schools use the shared age-standardised result but their qualifying rules differ. AGSB and AGGS policies provide defined lower-score routes for some looked-after or Pupil Premium applicants. Stretford provides automatic or Local Review routes for some applicants scoring 324-333, with a successful review resulting in 334R. Urmston sets 334 for most applicants and 324 for eligible Pupil Premium applicants, with additional Local Review bands. Sale Grammar School’s 2027 policy does not state a separate numeric qualifying score. Qualification or review is not an offer; each school applies its own admissions criteria.

  Provider change for September 2028 entry

  For September 2028 entry, the five Trafford Consortium schools will use FSCE instead of GL Assessment. The test sat in September 2027 will draw on the Key Stage 2 national curriculum programmes of study up to the end of Year 5. One paper draws on English and maths and a second draws on other subjects, and the content may change from year to year. For September 2029 entry onwards, the FSCE test moves to the latter part of the summer term of Year 5. Loreto Grammar School and St Ambrose College run separate tests; check each school for its own dates and familiarisation material.

Eligibility

Applicants must sit all elements of the Urmston Grammar entrance examination and achieve the qualifying score.

Score policy

The policy sets 334 or 334R and above for other candidates, 324 and above for Pupil Premium candidates, and provides Local Review routes for scores below those thresholds.

Oversubscription

After EHCP-named admissions for eligible applicants, the determined policy orders: Category A looked-after and previously looked-after applicants; Category B approximately 15 highest-scoring Pupil Premium applicants regardless of distance, including tied applicants at the lowest score in that allocation; Category C approximately 20 highest-scoring applicants regardless of residence, including tied applicants at the lowest score; Category D qualifying children of staff; Category E siblings attending on the examination date; then Category F approximately 120 remaining places by straight-line distance, first for M41/M31 applicants and then others. Categories B, C and F are approximate allocations within the PAN of 160, not additional places. Equal score and distance is decided by random allocation.
