  The five schools use the shared age-standardised result but their qualifying rules differ. AGSB and AGGS policies provide defined lower-score routes for some looked-after or Pupil Premium applicants. Stretford provides automatic or Local Review routes for some applicants scoring 324-333, with a successful review resulting in 334R. Urmston sets 334 for most applicants and 324 for eligible Pupil Premium applicants, with additional Local Review bands. Sale Grammar School’s 2027 policy does not state a separate numeric qualifying score. Qualification or review is not an offer; each school applies its own admissions criteria.

  Provider change for September 2028 entry

  For September 2028 entry, the five Trafford Consortium schools will use FSCE instead of GL Assessment. The test sat in September 2027 will draw on the Key Stage 2 national curriculum programmes of study up to the end of Year 5. One paper draws on English and maths and a second draws on other subjects, and the content may change from year to year. For September 2029 entry onwards, the FSCE test moves to the latter part of the summer term of Year 5. Loreto Grammar School and St Ambrose College run separate tests; check each school for its own dates and familiarisation material.

Eligibility

Applicants normally born from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016 must sit the entrance test and achieve 334 or above, or receive a qualifying 334R outcome through the published review process.

Score policy

The age-standardised test covers verbal, non-verbal and mathematical questions. The qualifying score is 334; Pupil Premium applicants scoring 324 to 333 receive automatic review, and other applicants scoring 324 to 333 may use Local Review.

Oversubscription

After EHCP-named applicants (where they achieve the required standard), the order is: (1) looked-after and previously looked-after children; (2) children in state care outside England who ceased to be in care through adoption; (3) successful applicants in the catchment area who receive Pupil Premium or Service Premium; (4) siblings attending Years 7-11 at the time of admission; (5) other successful applicants living in the catchment area; (6) successful applicants outside the catchment area who receive Pupil Premium or Service Premium; then (7) other successful applicants, with nearest straight-line home distance as the final criterion. For oversubscription in criteria 1-6, nearer distance determines priority within the criterion; equal-distance ties are resolved by supervised random allocation.
