Selection route

  • West Midlands Grammar Schools Entrance Test

Shared test group · GL Assessment · Two paper-based multiple-choice papers, each approximately 50 to 60 minutes including instructions and examples, with individually timed sections and separate answer sheets

The partnership test page publishes age-standardised weights of 50 per cent for English and verbal reasoning, 25 per cent for non-verbal reasoning and 25 per cent for mathematics. Warwickshire school policies allow school-selected weightings, so a shared sitting does not establish identical totals for every school. Check the intended school's entry-year method. There is no single route-wide offer threshold: each partner school applies its own qualifying scores and oversubscription rules. Sitting or passing the shared test does not guarantee an offer.

Check the official test registration page
Eligibility
Boys born 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016 who register for and complete the entrance test, name the school on the Common Application Form, and satisfy the residency requirements.
Score policy
The 2027 automatic qualifying score and required minimum academic standard are set for this entry year through the local review process; no fixed numeric score is published in the policy.
Oversubscription
EHCP-named children first; followed by looked-after or previously looked-after children; up to 30 Pupil Premium places for qualifying Eastern Warwickshire or Priority Circle children; up to 5 Service Premium places in those areas; eligible staff children; qualifying Eastern Area applicants; qualifying Priority Circle applicants; other qualifying applicants; then below-AQS applicants above the waiting-list standard. Applicants are ranked by test score and distance tie-break within categories.
Registration
GIAS does not publish the current test registration URL.

Registration routes and shared dates

Use the registration route shown for the child's real home address, then account for every school you intend to name. The home address is used to allocate a test centre. If an intended school is outside that registration region, select its partnership region for score-sharing before the deadline. The groups below are not alternatives: route-specific and school-specific dates can apply cumulatively, while shared result, preference-form and offer dates apply across multiple groups.
