Reading's two grammar schools have separate entrance tests
The two listed grammar schools within five miles of the published Reading reference point are Kendrick School and Reading School. Each runs its own test registration and admission rules; applying for one test does not register a child for the other. Kendrick's designated area and Reading School's catchment rules matter more than distance from the town point. Check the current policy for the school you might name.
For September 2027 entry, Kendrick held its main test on 18 September 2026 for designated-area candidates; the school said applicants outside that area would sit on a later date. Reading School tested in-catchment day and boarding candidates in July, with an out-of-catchment day sitting in September. Families with a result still need to list the school on their home council's application. Reading residents must apply by 31 October 2026; families elsewhere check their home council's deadline. Neither test registration nor a score is a school offer.
