- Two Transfer Test papers: one assesses verbal skills and one assesses mathematics and non-verbal skills. A separate Practice Test is scheduled for 8 September. Buckinghamshire state-funded primary and Partner school pupils sit at school; other pupils are usually allocated a grammar school or another central test venue.
What to do with a 2026 Secondary Transfer Test result
- A score of 121 or more qualifies your child to be considered by Buckinghamshire grammar schools. It is not a place offer. Check the 2027 policy of each school you want to name.
- If the score is below 121, consider the Selection Review and each school's Pupil Premium rules separately. A complete review case for a result received on 9 October is due by 30 October 2026; later results normally have a three-week window. The council says all 13 grammar schools offer some places to eligible Pupil Premium children below 121, subject to school-specific minimum scores and usually catchment. Send the required score and entitlement evidence to each relevant school by 31 October 2026. Both routes can be pursued together.
- List the grammar schools you would accept on your home council's secondary application, even while a review is pending. Buckinghamshire residents must apply by 11:59pm on 31 October 2026; families elsewhere must check their own council's deadline.

1. Secondary Transfer Test
Year 6 pupils take the Transfer Test on 10 September 2026 for September 2027 Year 7 entry; the separate Practice Test is on 8 September 2026.

Scoring and eligibility
GL marks the papers and scores are age-standardised. The total is weighted 50% verbal, 25% mathematical and 25% non-verbal; a total of 121 or more qualifies. A higher score gives no extra admission priority.
