Selection route

  • Kent Test

Local authority selection test · GL Assessment · Paper-based multiple-choice tests with separate answer sheets, followed by an unmarked writing exercise

English, mathematics and reasoning results are age-standardised. Kent sets an aggregate threshold and minimum component scores for each test year. For September 2027 entry, the 2026 test required an aggregate of at least 345 with no component below 111. A grammar assessment does not guarantee a school place; each school applies its own admissions criteria when oversubscribed.

Provider change for September 2028 entry

For September 2028 entry, Kent County Council has appointed Quest Assessments for the test sat in 2027. The council says its structure, timing and purpose will stay the same and will publish familiarisation material before that test. The 2026 test and September 2027 entry are unaffected.

  • Weald Grammar Assessment

School-specific assessment · The current 2027-entry policy and FAQ do not identify an external test provider. The Quest guidance the school links to is for September 2028 entry. · Assessment at Weald of Kent Grammar School. The current 2027-entry FAQ describes two one-hour papers, labelled English and Maths. The policy also lists verbal and non-verbal reasoning, but the current FAQ does not give separate reasoning-section timings.

The school sets the pass standard by reference to local results, approximately corresponding to the top 25% of the age group nationally. No fixed numeric threshold is published in the current policy or FAQ. Passing either the Weald Grammar Assessment or the Kent Test can establish grammar suitability for Weald of Kent; passing both gives no extra priority. Qualification is not an offer: the school applies its oversubscription criteria to 270 Year 7 places. Results are emailed in line with the Kent PESE notification process; ask the school for the exact Weald results date. Families must separately name the school on their home council application.

Eligibility
Girls must meet the required standard in either the Kent Test or Weald Grammar Assessment; both routes have equal weighting.
Score policy
Girls may qualify through either the Kent Test or Weald Grammar Assessment. Passing both gives no additional priority. No separate fixed numeric Weald Grammar Assessment pass mark is published; a qualifying result does not guarantee a place.
Oversubscription
After selective EHCP-named admissions, the order is looked-after or previously looked-after children; 40 eligible Pupil Premium girls; qualifying siblings; evidenced health or special-access need; qualifying staff children; applicants in the listed postcode districts or parishes, ranked by distance; then other eligible applicants. Distance is measured to the designated Tonbridge-campus OS reference point TQ 59489 45217, with independently supervised random allocation for otherwise unresolved distance ties. The current policy applies its criteria equally to applicants qualifying through either test; earlier PDFs that limited premium or staff priority to Kent-Test passers are superseded by the currently linked version.
