  For September 2028 entry, the Dorset Consortium will use Quest Assessments for the test sat in September 2027. Quest describes three 40-minute papers in maths, English and verbal reasoning. Eligibility

Boys must meet the required academic standard in the Dorset Consortium entrance tests in English, mathematics and verbal reasoning and apply through the coordinated local-authority process.

Score policy

The aggregate of the three age-standardised entrance-test scores determines whether a boy meets the required standard. The policy issues the test score and pass mark to parents and uses higher scores to rank applicants within oversubscription categories.

Oversubscription

After eligible boys with an EHCP naming Poole Grammar School who have achieved the required academic standard are admitted, other eligible applicants are prioritised in this order: looked-after or previously looked-after children; Pupil Premium applicants inside the historic Borough of Poole or specified Poole postcodes; Pupil Premium applicants outside that area; eligible sons of qualifying staff; other eligible applicants inside that area; then other eligible applicants outside it. Entrance-test scores rank applicants within categories; BCP GIS distance decides an equal-score tie for the last place, with random allocation for equal distances.

   Boys take English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning tests; the aggregate determines whether they meet the required standard and scores are age-standardised. The policy sets the main test window as the last two weeks of September, an early-October catch-up for illness or another significant acceptable reason, and results on 16 October 2026, but defers the exact sitting date to the school admissions page.
