Selection route

  • West Midlands Grammar Schools Entrance Test

Shared test group · GL Assessment · Two paper-based multiple-choice papers, each approximately 50 to 60 minutes including instructions and examples, with individually timed sections and separate answer sheets

The partnership test page publishes age-standardised weights of 50 per cent for English and verbal reasoning, 25 per cent for non-verbal reasoning and 25 per cent for mathematics. Warwickshire school policies allow school-selected weightings, so a shared sitting does not establish identical totals for every school. Check the intended school's entry-year method. There is no single route-wide offer threshold: each partner school applies its own qualifying scores and oversubscription rules. Sitting or passing the shared test does not guarantee an offer.

Eligibility
Girls applying for Year 7 in September 2027 must attain the required standard in the school's entrance test and be no older than 11 on 31 August 2027; the test is open to applicants living within and beyond Wolverhampton.
Score policy
The required standard is applicants scoring within 2% of the last automatic place, with Pupil Premium applicants eligible at the separately set qualifying score. The qualifying score is set in October 2026; remaining places are ranked by entrance-test performance.
Oversubscription
Where more than 180 applications are received, Stage 1 offers go to looked-after or previously looked-after children meeting the qualifying score and the first 25 highest-ranked Pupil Premium candidates meeting it; remaining places are allocated in strict entrance-test merit order. Tie-breaks use looked-after status, Pupil Premium, straight-line distance and then twins or multiple births as specified.
Registration
GIAS does not publish the current test registration URL.

Registration routes and shared dates

Use the registration route shown for the child's real home address, then account for every school you intend to name. The home address is used to allocate a test centre. If an intended school is outside that registration region, select its partnership region for score-sharing before the deadline. The groups below are not alternatives: route-specific and school-specific dates can apply cumulatively, while shared result, preference-form and offer dates apply across multiple groups.
