Selection route

  • Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools 11 Plus

Formal consortium · GL Assessment · Two GL Assessment papers, approximately 60 to 65 minutes each, with answers recorded on separate computer-marked answer sheets; the provider marks and standardises the scores.

GL Assessment standardises the combined results. For September 2027 entry, a standardised score of 111 or above is the eligibility threshold, described by the consortium as approximately the top 35% of that test cohort. Eligibility is for consideration only and does not guarantee a place; each school applies its own oversubscription criteria.

Provider change for September 2028 entry

For September 2028 entry, the Slough Consortium will use Quest Assessments for the test sat in September 2027. Its schools say the test will still have two papers across English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and the eligibility score will remain 111. Exact registration and test dates need checking with the consortium.

Eligibility
Applicants must register for and sit the Slough Consortium 11+ entrance examination, achieve a standardised score of 111 or above, and apply through the Common Application Form to their responsible local authority.
Score policy
A standardised score of 111 or above places an applicant in the top 35% of the ability range and makes them eligible for consideration; applicants are ranked by performance in the Consortium 11+ examination within the oversubscription categories.

Who gets priority

Published area: Priority Area 1 (Inner): SL3 7, SL3 8, SL3 9, SL3 0, Priority Area 2 (Outer): SL0, SL1, SL2, SL3 outside Area 1, SL4; TW18, TW19, TW20; UB3, UB4, UB7, UB8, UB10, Priority Area 3 (General): SL5, SL6, SL7, SL8, SL9; TW3, TW4, TW5, TW7, TW13, TW14, TW15; UB1, UB2, UB5, UB6, UB9; HA1, HA2, HA3, HA4, HA5, HA6; W5, W7, W13; RG12, RG42.

These are separate priority tiers, not a single catchment or an exclusion of outside applicants. Area 1 uses postcode sectors; Areas 2 and 3 use districts, with Area 1 excluded from Area 2. Confirm the full address and tier with Admissions. Permanent residence is required at the same address from 1 May 2026 through the CAF closing date of 31 October 2026. Later genuine moves unrelated to seeking a place may receive special consideration. Home means majority-time parental residence; an equal-care court order allows parents to agree which address. Business, relative and childminder addresses do not count. Temporary tenancies of 12 months or less may use the former home unless all ties have been relinquished or the move is not easily reversible. Service/Crown relocation needs an official letter with intended address and date. Final-place distance uses computerised home-to-school address points, not the journey route; the policy does not specify a walking/straight-line calculation.

PAN is 180. A Slough Consortium standardised score of 111 or more means eligibility, not an offer. EHCP-named children are admitted first following the consultation arrangements. Eligible care/previously-care children, including adoption after overseas state care, take priority. The remaining order is: Area 1, up to 120 places, with premium first and then test rank; Area 2 premium; qualifying children of permanent school staff; other Area 2 applicants by test rank; Area 3, with premium first when oversubscribed and then test rank; outside-area applicants by test rank. The 120 is within PAN, not an extra allocation. Staff must have two continuous years before the application deadline or have filled a demonstrable skill-shortage post. Premium is assessed at the CAF deadline: evidence of receipt/eligibility for FSM then, or income-related FSM eligibility at any point since April 2018. That fixed date is published in the 2027 policy; confirm eligibility with Admissions rather than substituting a generic six-year rule. Paragraph 7 does not explicitly state a score ranking within the Area 2 premium or staff categories: confirm with Admissions if oversubscribed. Final-place ties favour the nearer permanent home, using computerised home-to-school address points, not the travel route. If still tied, Governors exercise discretion to admit above PAN. Apply on the separate home-authority CAF as well as registering for the test. Qualified applicants not initially offered a place join a reranked waiting list through 31 December 2027. Request an extension to remain until 31 August 2028, and renew at each academic-year end thereafter. Time waiting gives no priority or guarantee. Outside-area admission remains a criterion, despite school advice that an offer is unlikely. The school’s 2027 page links this PDF as its formal policy; confirm any recent changes with Admissions.
