Selection route

  • Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools 11 Plus

Formal consortium · GL Assessment · Two GL Assessment papers, approximately 60 to 65 minutes each, with answers recorded on separate computer-marked answer sheets; the provider marks and standardises the scores.

GL Assessment standardises the combined results. For September 2027 entry, a standardised score of 111 or above is the eligibility threshold, described by the consortium as approximately the top 35% of that test cohort. Eligibility is for consideration only and does not guarantee a place; each school applies its own oversubscription criteria.

Provider change for September 2028 entry

For September 2028 entry, the Slough Consortium will use Quest Assessments for the test sat in September 2027. Its schools say the test will still have two papers across English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and the eligibility score will remain 111. Exact registration and test dates need checking with the consortium.

Score policy
A standardised score of 111 or above is the minimum eligibility score; the policy names the Slough Consortium 11+ and ranks remaining places by examination performance. It does not specify the provider, paper count or components.

Who gets priority

Published radius: 4 miles from the main entrance gate of Herschel Grammar School.

The four-mile category is measured in a straight line from the child’s front door, including flats, to the main entrance gate using GIS, with nearer homes first. A separate later category offers up to 10 premium places within 10 miles using the same method. Appendix 1 is an indicative map, not an exact address check. Ask the school to confirm the gate reference and full address. The registration address is used; the CAF home must apply by 31 October 2026 and continuously since 1 May 2026. Shared-care families quote both addresses; the majority-time home applies. Notify and explain any move; special consideration is possible for a move not intended to improve admission chances.

Ask the admissions authority to check your address against its exact reference point. School postcode coordinates cannot confirm this boundary.

EHCP-named children are admitted first. Other applicants need a standardised Slough Consortium score of 111+. The Year 7 order is looked-after/previously looked-after children, including adoption after overseas state care; applicants within 4 miles, nearer first; up to 10 further premium applicants within 10 miles, nearer first; children of permanent staff continuously employed for at least 2 years before the application deadline; then remaining applicants by test score, with nearer homes first for equal scores. The 10 premium places are within the PAN of 150, not an extra intake or the school’s only premium places. Distance uses straight-line GIS measurement from the home front door, including flats, to the main school gate. Equal final-place distances use random allocation supervised independently of the school. Premium eligibility is checked at the CAF closing date. Note(c) asks for current FSM then or income-related FSM since 1 September 2019; confirm that dated look-back requirement with the school rather than assuming an Ever 6 window. The home used at test registration must be lived in continuously from 1 May 2026 and apply on the CAF by 31 October 2026; quote both shared-care addresses, use the majority-time residence and notify any change. The waiting list follows the same criteria, is reranked when children join/leave and runs to 31 December 2027. A score of 111 establishes eligibility, not a guaranteed place. The later in-year section uses distance rather than test-score ranking for its final category; it is not the normal Year 7 order.

For September 2027 entry. Policy checked 2026-10-01. A priority category does not guarantee an offer.
