Selection route

  • West Midlands Grammar Schools Entrance Test

Shared test group · GL Assessment · Two paper-based multiple-choice papers, each approximately 50 to 60 minutes including instructions and examples, with individually timed sections and separate answer sheets

The partnership test page publishes age-standardised weights of 50 per cent for English and verbal reasoning, 25 per cent for non-verbal reasoning and 25 per cent for mathematics. Warwickshire school policies allow school-selected weightings, so a shared sitting does not establish identical totals for every school. Check the intended school's entry-year method. There is no single route-wide offer threshold: each partner school applies its own qualifying scores and oversubscription rules. Sitting or passing the shared test does not guarantee an offer.

Check the official test registration page
Eligibility
Children born from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016, or educated in Year 6 during 2026/27, may apply by registering for and completing the Haberdashers' Adams 11+ entrance test and naming the school on the home local authority common application form.
Score policy
Applicants must meet the required academic standard in the entrance test. The policy allows qualifying Pupil Premium or Service Premium applicants a score no lower than five per cent below the general qualifying score. Meeting the standard makes a child eligible for ranking under the day or boarding oversubscription rules; it does not guarantee a place.

Who gets priority

Priority school groups: Apley Wood Primary, Aqueduct Primary, Captain Webb Primary, Castle House School, Dawley CE Primary, Donnington Wood CE Juniors, Dothill Primary, Hollinswood Primary, Holmer Lake Primary, Ladygrove Primary, Lantern Academy (formerly Queenswood Primary), Lawley Primary, Lawley Village Academy, Lightmoor Village Primary, Lilleshall Primary, Meadows Primary, Millbrook Primary, Moorfield Primary, Muxton Primary, Newdale Primary, Newport CE Juniors School, Old Park Primary, Randlay Primary, St. George’s Church of England Primary, St. Luke’s Catholic Primary, St. Patrick’s Catholic Primary, St. Peters, Bratton, St. Peter’s CofE Primary School, St. Peter & St. Paul Catholic Primary, Short Wood Primary, Teagues Bridge Primary, Tibberton CE Primary, Windmill Primary, Wombridge Primary, Wrekin View Primary, Wrockwardine Wood CE Junior.

Priority depends on being on roll at one of the 36 designated primary schools by 4pm on 26 June 2026, not on the home postcode. A subsequent primary-school move changes the priority assessment immediately. Designated-school priority applies to day places; boarding has separate criteria.

Year 7 has 135 mixed day places and up to 15 boys' boarding places; academic qualification is required. Day priority is policy-defined looked-after or previously looked-after children, including overseas state-care/adoption cases; Pupil or Service Premium children recorded in the October 2025 school census; children on roll at a designated primary by the registration deadline; then entrance-test rank. Premium applicants need a qualifying score no more than 5% below the general qualifying score and must return the premium form by 4pm on 26 June 2026. If designated-primary applicants exceed available places, test scores rank them. Equal scores in the final ranked category use straight-line distance; an exact equal-distance procedure is not specified. Moving off a designated primary after the deadline changes the priority assessment immediately, and families must report changes promptly. The day waiting list is re-ranked under these criteria until 31 December 2027; a separate boarding list is chosen by parents. Boarding suitability requires a child/parent interview and current-school report. Boarding order is care-status children; UK Armed Forces children qualifying for MoD boarding-fee assistance; policy-defined boarding need; then test rank, with distance for equal scores. Boarding need covers travel distance, benefit from structured support, family movement or instability, and limited parental time because of demands such as work. A boarding place cannot automatically transfer to a day place. Consortium registration must select SWW to share the child's details with Adams; the home-authority common application is also required. The policy's EHCP paragraph says qualifying EHCP children follow oversubscription criteria; ask the admissions authority to confirm how named-plan admissions are handled rather than treating this summary as a statutory decision.

For September 2027 entry. Policy checked 2026-10-23. A priority category does not guarantee an offer.
