11+ schools and tests in Hertfordshire

This directory includes all seven South West Herts Schools Consortium members as well as Dame Alice Owen’s School, which runs a separate entrance test. Other Hertfordshire schools may also use ability or aptitude testing.

Check the council's school testing list and the consortium's member school and test list before deciding which routes apply to your child.

For September 2027 entry, consortium test registration closed on 5 June 2026 and scores were due in mid-October. Families with a result still need to apply through their home council and check whether a school information form is required. Hertfordshire's on-time application deadline is 31 October 2026; families elsewhere should check their home council's deadline. Test registration alone is not a school application.

If you are considering a review of an academic paper, the consortium accepts marking-review requests until 2 November 2026. Its published fee is £50. Do not wait for that decision before submitting the school application.

• Watford Grammar School for Boys

  Test route: Academic and music. Places: PAN 224; up to 56 academic and 22 music places. Eligibility: Academic applicants are ranked by standardised test score; the policy states no minimum qualifying score. Form: School Information Form by 31 October 2026. • Watford Grammar School for Girls

  Test route: Academic and music. Places: PAN 210; up to 52 academic and 21 music places. Eligibility: Specialist places are divided between the Watford area and the rest of the published admission area; applicants outside it are considered only if places remain.   Test route: Academic and music. Places: PAN 216; up to 25% academic and 10% music places. Eligibility: Academic applicants are ranked by consortium test performance; the policy states no minimum score. Form: Online supplementary form by 31 October 2026. • Queens’ School

  Test route: Academic, music and sport. Places: PAN 270; up to 35% academic, 5% music and 5% sport places. Eligibility: Selection tests apply within the school's published postcode and priority criteria; its sports test is separate. • Rickmansworth School

  Test route: Academic and music. Places: The official 2027/28 policy specifies academic up to 25% and music up to 10%; its PAN paragraph says September 2026, so confirm the current PAN with the school. Eligibility: Academic applicants are ranked by consortium test performance; the policy states no minimum score. • St Clement Danes School

  Test route: Academic and music. Places: The official 2027/28 policy specifies academic up to 10% and music up to 10%; its PAN section is headed 2025, so confirm the current PAN with the school. Eligibility: The shared tests are only one criterion; the school applies its own criteria and says test results do not guarantee a place. • Croxley Danes School

  Test route: Music only; no academic selection. Places: PAN 180; up to 10% music aptitude places. Eligibility: Its 2027 policy has no academic selection criterion, so the consortium academic test is not used for Croxley Danes.
