The answer
0.375 = 3/8
How to write 0.375 as a fraction
Put the digits in a place value chart. The place of the last digit tells you the bottom of the fraction.
| Ones | Tenths | Hundredths | Thousandths |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 3 | 7 | 5 |
The last digit is in the thousandths column, so 0.375 is 375 thousandths: 375/1,000.
Simplify by dividing the top and bottom by the same number. In one go, divide by the highest common factor (the biggest whole number that divides both exactly), 125: 375/1,000 = 3/8.
If you cannot spot 125, smaller steps get there too:
- Divide by 5: 75/200
- Divide by 5: 15/40
- Divide by 5: 3/8
3 and 8 share no factor except 1, so 3/8 is the simplest form.
As a percentage, 0.375 = 37.5%: multiply by 100, which moves each digit two places to the left.
To check, divide back: see 3/8 as a decimal and 3/8 as a percentage.
