The answer
0.25 = 1/4
How to write 0.25 as a fraction
Put the digits in a place value chart. The place of the last digit tells you the bottom of the fraction.
| Ones | Tenths | Hundredths |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 2 | 5 |
The last digit is in the hundredths column, so 0.25 is 25 hundredths: 25/100.
Simplify by dividing the top and bottom by the same number. In one go, divide by the highest common factor (the biggest whole number that divides both exactly), 25: 25/100 = 1/4.
If you cannot spot 25, smaller steps get there too:
- Divide by 5: 5/20
- Divide by 5: 1/4
1 and 4 share no factor except 1, so 1/4 is the simplest form.
As a percentage, 0.25 = 25%: multiply by 100, which moves each digit two places to the left.
To check, divide back: see 1/4 as a decimal and 1/4 as a percentage.

Shade 1/4 on a fraction wall
This wall shows selected denominators: halves, thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, eighths and tenths. Other fractions on this site may not have a row here. The wall opens with 1/4 shaded in the quarters row. Look straight down: the shading ends in exactly the same place in 2/8, so it is equal to 1/4. Tap other pieces to try more fractions.
