Practice Papers and Mock Tests
Kent Test Practice Papers and Where to Find Them
Find Kent’s official familiarisation material, distinguish it from unofficial practice, and check which entry year a resource fits. Practice marks are not official Kent scores.

Start with Kent County Council's preparation page. It links the official familiarisation booklet and explains the paper structure. Familiarisation examples are not the live test papers, and an unofficial practice score is not an official Kent result.
Check the entry year. The test sat in September 2026 was for September 2027 admission. Kent has appointed Quest Assessments for tests from 2027, for September 2028 entry. The council says the purpose, format and timing will remain the same and new familiarisation materials will follow. Its preparation page currently labels the retained material as previous years' examples. Do not assume a GL-labelled pack is the new provider's official material.
Where can I find official free materials?
| Source | What it provides | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Kent County Council preparation page | A linked familiarisation PDF and the council's format guidance | The entry year and any new Quest materials when published |
| GL Assessment free familiarisation materials | GL says it provides 10 hours of free familiarisation materials, with sample questions across a range of question types | Local question counts and timings can differ; these are not the new Quest test papers |
| Our official-source paper directory | Links to provider and school materials | The publisher, year, subjects and whether an answer key is actually supplied |
GL distinguishes its free familiarisation downloads from its paid printed practice papers. A free download may be a ZIP archive containing PDFs. A blank answer sheet is for recording choices; it is not the answer key. Check the files included before printing or marking.
The council offers an alternative-format request route for its familiarisation document and notes that parts are not fully accessible to some assistive technologies. Use the official page if an accessible version is needed.
Are these real past papers?
The linked Kent booklet is described as familiarisation material. This guide does not establish that a third-party file advertised as a past paper was used in a live Kent Test. Check its publisher and provenance rather than relying on its title.
An original unofficial paper can still provide useful practice. It should say who wrote it, which format it models and what year that format describes. It should not imply access to unreleased official questions or an official standardisation method without evidence.
What format does Kent currently describe?
Kent's published preparation guidance describes:
- English and maths: one hour overall. Each subject has five minutes of practice followed by a 25-minute test. English includes comprehension and other literacy questions.
- Reasoning: about one hour including practice, with verbal and non-verbal sections of roughly equal length. Non-verbal work is divided into short sections timed separately.
- Writing: 40 minutes including ten minutes of planning. It is not part of the scored test but may be used by a headteacher panel.
The multiple-choice papers use a separate answer sheet and computer marking. Practise following the supplied instructions, including matching question numbers to rows. Do not assume an online exercise rehearses the physical act of marking a paper sheet.
For a new cycle, recheck the council's current materials. Its announced provider change does not establish that every old question style will appear unchanged.
How should I judge an unofficial practice pack?
Compare its stated format with the relevant entry-year guidance. Check whether timings include practice and reading, whether it permits returning to earlier sections, and whether it includes explanations or only answer letters.
A worksheet can be useful for one topic without being a full rehearsal. A complete test rehearsal needs the appropriate papers, instructions, sections and breaks. There is no universal number of papers or fixed weekly timetable recommended here.
Check the current price, included files, access conditions and reuse terms before paying or downloading. This guide does not give a market price range or make claims about a competitor's checkout that have not been verified.
Can a practice mark become an official Kent score?
No. A percentage describes performance on that particular set of questions. It does not reproduce Kent's standardisation, cohort or qualifying rules. A third-party conversion may use its own assumptions; it cannot establish an official Kent result.
Use the relevant mark scheme to discuss what the child understood and what needs more teaching. If a product reports an age-adjusted score, ask how it was calculated and which reference group it uses. Do not treat it as an admission prediction.
Our Kent results guide separates the current qualification threshold from a school's allocation rules. A qualifying result is not an offer of a place.
Is Medway the same test?
No. Medway Council describes three papers: English for 30 minutes, maths for 50 and reasoning for 45, excluding administration and practice. The reasoning time contains four spatial/non-verbal sections totalling 20 minutes and a 25-minute verbal section. Breaks between papers are at least 20 minutes.
Medway standardises the raw scores before applying its weighting: English multiplied by two, maths by two and reasoning by one. That does not mean each raw English answer has exactly twice the final value of a reasoning answer. Use the Medway scoring guidance and the target school's admissions policy.
A question from one route may practise a useful skill for another, but the full paper is not automatically a matching rehearsal. Check separate registrations and school-specific result acceptance. Medway identifies Chatham Grammar as accepting a Kent or Medway grammar assessment; that exception does not make the two tests interchangeable.
Keep practice and applications separate
For a future cycle, use Kent's registration page for the published deadline. Do not reuse 1 July 2026 as a future date. The separate school application goes through the home local authority under its own timetable.
Our Kent Test guide gives wider admissions context. Smart Cub Learning's paper-tests feature describes online GL-style practice; this page does not promise a free Kent-specific full-length set, a writing-panel assessment or an official score conversion.
