Selection route

  • St Joseph's College 11+ assessment

School-specific assessment · The current policy and school page do not name an external test provider. Do not assume GL Assessment sets the test because the school links to GL familiarisation material. · The current Year 7 FAQ describes two multiple-choice papers: verbal reasoning (50 minutes) and non-verbal reasoning (40 minutes). The page does not explicitly establish online versus paper delivery for the normal September 2027-entry test; its computer-based wording is in the separate in-year section.

The entrance standard is an age-adjusted average of 105; scores of 103 or 104 are re-marked. Meeting the standard does not guarantee a place. If more than 150 qualify, the policy applies its oversubscription categories, faith and Pupil Premium rules, then distance and random tie-breaks where specified. No further reference to test scores is used when offering places under those criteria. The separate 2026/27 additional-place trial does not permanently increase PAN.

Eligibility
Applicants must apply through their home local authority, complete the school's supplementary application and sit the selective entrance test; Catholic-priority applicants must provide baptism and Catholic Practice evidence.
Score policy
Applicants must reach the required selective standard in the entrance assessment; eligible applicants are ranked under the published oversubscription criteria and reaching the standard does not guarantee a place.
Oversubscription
Children whose EHC plan names the College are admitted. Qualified applicants then follow the policy's ordered categories: Catholic looked-after or previously looked-after children; Catholic siblings; Catholic children of staff; other Catholic applicants (categories 1-4 capped at 125); non-Catholic looked-after or previously looked-after children; Christian siblings; Christian children of staff; other Christians (normally limited to 18, with unused Catholic places transferred as specified); non-Christian siblings; non-Christian children of staff; then other non-Christian or no-faith applicants. Within categories 8-11, Pupil Premium applicants are prioritised before distance. Catholic applicants are ranked using baptism and Catholic Practice evidence, with Pupil Premium ordering within the defined group. Straight-line distance breaks category ties; random allocation applies if distance cannot separate applicants, with the multiple-birth exception stated in the policy.
